Personal Hygiene For Kids: Importance And Tips To Teach

Children are truly the free spirits that adults aspire to be. They’re happy, carefree, and super excited. But this might come at the cost of them exposing themselves to various external factors that can harm them and hamper their well-being. This is the reason parents have become infamous for being too obsessive and protective of their children but, not all concerns are an overreaction. One of the main causes of worry for parents is kids’ hygiene. While kids’ hygiene habits are not the easiest topic to talk about, it is important to make sure that they are following proper hygiene practices.

Kids need to be taught the importance of washing their hands and keeping their surroundings clean. They should be taught how to properly use a toilet and keep their clothes clean to ensure that they inculcate these good habits into their daily routine and live a healthy lifestyle right from the beginning. Here are some important tips that you must teach your little ones.

Washing Hands:
Washing hands is the first and foremost thing that comes into our minds when we think of hygiene, especially since the start of the pandemic. Kids are constantly touching toys, books, and food throughout the day, so it's important that they wash their hands before and after eating, using the restroom, taking the garbage out, and petting animals. Additionally, it's a good idea to have them wash their hands when they come home from school or after being around a sick friend or hospital. A soap dispenser at every wash basin is also a good way to combat the spread of harmful germs that can live on surfaces for long periods of time. Kids are more likely to wash their hands properly if they have easy access to soap and water.

Brushing Teeth Twice A Day:
Oral hygiene is one of the most important steps in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Brushing teeth and keeping your mouth clean can prevent cavities, gum disease and other oral diseases. But it can be hard to get kids to brush their teeth. Children are often too young or not yet able to brush their own teeth properly. That's why it's important for parents and caregivers to teach kids how to brush their teeth from a young age and supervise them when they're brushing so they do it right. It’s also important for parents or caregivers to make sure that the child brushes all of his or her teeth - front, back, top, and bottom - at least twice a day.

Wearing Fresh and Clean Underwear:
Children’s hygiene is a very important topic. It is not just about keeping the body clean but also about them feeling confident and comfortable in their own skin.

Intimate hygiene for kids is often neglected because adults think it’s too early to teach them about it. However, there are many ways to teach kids about intimate hygiene without being extremely explicit. The first and most important step is to have a conversation with your child and make sure they know that their underwear needs to be changed often and they should wash their hands before and after going to the bathroom. Wearing fresh undies will not only keep your child hygienic but also help them go about the day without feeling uncomfortable. XY Life’s range of kids’ undergarments is made of a superior Tencel Modal fabric which is known for its sweat absorption properties as well as an antimicrobial fabric that your child will absolutely love.

Keeping the Surroundings Clean:
Every child's first classroom is their home, and their best teachers are unquestionably their parents. This is the reason it's crucial to inculcate in children a sense of responsibility for maintaining a clean home from an early age.

Even if you follow all the basic hygiene advice for children, a dirty desk or bedroom will harbor a lot of bacteria and germs. That’s why it’s important to teach your children to maintain a clean environment, starting with their study table and moving on to their bed and restroom. Make sure kids always use clean clothes and towels, put dirty clothes in the laundry basket, and put away dirty clothes.

Taking a Bath Every Day:
Just like adults, children require regular showers or baths. But young children either like or detest taking baths. There's an easy solution to this, you can always make it fun by converting bath time into a fun game.  Place your child in the tub with a washcloth, soapy water, and their favorite toys. Make sure to follow the same bathing routine every day so that it becomes a habit very early on in your kids’ lives. You can end their bathtime with a thorough drying process and help them put on a comfy set of underwear and their favorite pyjamas.

When you give your children the necessary "keep yourself clean and healthy" speech, they might not pay attention. The best approach to establishing a healthy habit in your children is to do it yourself first. Children quickly mimic the actions of adults. So always remember to set an example for them. It's essential for them to understand the need to practice personal hygiene themselves. So, do not be harsh to your children and be patient with their progress. After all, we all want the best for our kids!
